A gathering for Shakshuka at Meet at the Mountain backpacker hostel for Israeli Travelers – Dror the Explorer gave us a great Shakshuka recipe and made it. It was delicious!
Shakshuka recipe below.
The Yesh staff have invertedly hired a Chef! Dror and I had just met the new owners of ‘Meet at the Mountain‘ near the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and we decided to go check out the premise and show them how the app works for large scale hosting. You will have to check out the lodge if you’re doing the crossing. Be sure to book through the app and secure your bed, this place will fill up fast throughout the season because of it’s proximity to Mount Ruapehu and the numerous trails and adventure tours.
Our content creator Dror lets us know he has breakfast sorted for Saturday morning with Shakshuka on the menu. Naturally, we all take to our phones to see what we are about to be served. After several attempts to get the spelling Shakshuka recipe correctly, we find it’s a North African/Arabic meal made famous by Israeli’s because well, it’s great!
It’s also a very simple recipe too. In fact, as Hosts, you may also be treated to this dish by your own Guests. And we wanted to assure you, it really is worth saying yes. Dror has kindly offered his version for you to try at home. He says his secret ingredient is passion “…sometimes when I cook, I cry….” his gaze drifts down to the onions and begins the dicing. He then explains “you have to feel the food”.
- Some olive oil
- 7 garlic pieces
- 1 onion
- 3 peppers
- 4 tomatoes
- 1 can of whole tomatoes
- A sprinkling of Paprika, Nutmeg
Cut everything but the eggs and put it in that order. After everything is cooked put the eggs in and let them cook, too. Seal it up that the eggs would be cooked from all sides. Serve with Tahini.
Hosting Israeli Travelers has many benefits. Although providing a place to sleep is the only requirement. If you have time to enjoy your guests, we can not think of a better way than sharing a meal.
